At Meals on Wheels London, we believe that seniors should have the support they need to live well at home – safely, comfortably, and with confidence. Whether you’re a senior yourself, a caregiver, or helping a loved one, knowing where to turn for local resources can make everyday life easier.

Here are some helpful neighbourhood resources every senior in London should know about.

Health and Wellness 

  • Meals on Wheels Program – Affordable meal delivery and transportation services that support independence and wellness for seniors and adults with disabilities. Their services include fresh meals, frozen meals, breakfast, rides to appointments anywhere in London, and friendly visiting.
     
  • London InterCommunity Health Centre – Offers primary health care, chronic disease management, and mental health services with a focus on seniors and marginalized populations.
     
  • Southwest Healthline – A directory of health and social services, including home care, falls prevention programs, and caregiver support. 
     
  • Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility – Helping seniors and people with disabilities stay independent, active, and socially connected. We are also helping seniors stay safe and making Ontario more accessible for everyone and promoting the benefits of age-diverse, accessible workplaces and communities where everyone is able to participate. 
     
  • Atlohsa Family Healing Services – Atlohsa Family Healing Services is a non-profit, charitable organization in southwestern Ontario, dedicated to providing women, men and children and youth the tools, teachings and resources supporting the journey to wellness. 
     
  • Canadian Mental Health Association – Provides information, case management, and community support services for those who have experienced psychiatric or emotional illnesses.  
     
  • Alzheimer’s Society Southwest Partners – The Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners is the local community agency dedicated to supporting individuals living with dementia and their care partners. This organization is here to help you, whether you want some information, or are looking for a diagnosis. The first step is to speak with a representative, and they will help you take the next step. Early diagnosis and intervention are key to slowing down the decline in mental and cognitive functions. 
     

Transportation

  • London Transit Commission – Accessible city-wide public transportation for seniors and individuals with mobility needs.

  • Over 55 (London) – Supports for adult members age 55 and over with home and property services as well as helping seniors seeking employment or volunteer opportunities.
     
  • The City of London – Seniors’ recreation opportunities – The City’s seniors’ centres and programs help older adults in London live healthy, active and social lives. 
     
  • Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario – Provides support to seniors affected by abuse, foster public awareness, deliver training, and community building.
     
  • South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre – Programs include Newcomer Seniors Support Group, Newcomer Women’s Support Group, International cooking club and Middle Eastern women’s aerobics.
     
  • London Public Library – London Public Library serves the community through our 16 neighbourhood library locations, our extensive community outreach and our excellent online resources.   
     
  • The YMCA — The Y is your one-stop destination for fitness, health, and community where you can work out, get social, and reach your personal goals.
