Help Deliver 16,000 Meals to Londoners in Need!
For 28 years, Meals on Wheels London has hosted our annual Marching for Meals walkathon, raising funds to support the critical subsidies that make meals and transportation possible for nearly 60% of our clients.
For many years, our goal was to raise $20,000 to support client subsidies, but as the need in London has rapidly grown, especially in the face of skyrocketing costs of living (food, medical expenses, shelter, and more), we have had to scale up our efforts to support those who depend on us. With the huge increase in need for services we saw throughout the pandemic, MOWL increased our annual goal to $30,000, supporting 12,000 subsidized meals for Londoners who could otherwise not afford them. We are so appreciative to our compassionate community in London who showed up and supported our cause, which enabled us to continue helping neighbors in need – we are proud to say that we never missed a meal the entire pandemic.
The need however, continues to grow.
Just last year, Meals on Wheels London provided over 130,000 meals, with nearly 60% of those being subsidized. We continue to see the need for fresh, affordable meal services in London grow, while also seeing the struggles our community is facing continue to balloon. From rapidly increasing inflation, tariffs driving up costs, the housing crisis, and so much more, our community needs low-cost services to help meet their basic needs. It is because of this, we have taken the step to increase our annual Marching for Meals goal to $40,000 per year, which will provide 4000 additional meals on top of our existing goal, bringing our goal to a whopping 16,000 subsidized meals. These subsidies are a vital lifeline and will go to supporting even more of London’s neighbours in need – most of whom otherwise could not afford them.
