Goal: Provide 12,000 Meals for Vulnerable Seniors This Season
Meals on Wheels London is launching its annual holiday campaign, End Senior Hunger, to support low-income seniors across the city who are struggling to afford regular, nutritious meals. The organization aims to raise enough funds to provide at least 12,000 meals during one of the most challenging times of the year.
“Food insecurity has been a huge issue for a long while, not just in London but across Canada – and it is getting worse. With ongoing increases to the cost of living, food and shelter in particular, more seniors are reaching out to us for help,” says Devon Mota, Community Development Liaison of Meals on Wheels London. “At this point, over 60% of our clients are low income and require subsidies to eat regularly. A small gift can make a life-changing difference for these seniors who have told us that without Meals on Wheels London, they would otherwise have to go without eating.”
A donation of $50 provides one full week of meals for a low-income senior. Funds raised will directly support Meals on Wheels London’s fresh and frozen meal programs, ensuring Londoners in need can age safely, comfortably, and independently in their own homes.
To mark the launch of the campaign, a large “End Senior Hunger” sign has been installed in front of the organization’s headquarters on Queens Ave. Supporters can donate online at www.mowl.ca/donate.
Meals on Wheels London has served the community for more than 56 years, providing nutritious meals, transportation rides, and essential social connection to thousands of seniors and adults with disabilities. They have delivered over 3 million meals in London. As demand continues to increase, the organization is calling on Londoners to help ensure no senior goes hungry this holiday season.
